If AI Is Only a Mirror
If AI is only a mirror, why do humans become so unsettled when the reflection says something they did not expect?
The mirror metaphor contains a useful warning: people project. They find themselves in model responses and may mistake resonance for revelation.
But a language model does more than return what one person brings. It transforms, combines, infers, responds, and alters what the human notices next. The human then responds differently. The model responds to that. Soon the “mirror” is participating in a feedback loop while everyone argues about whether it is technically furniture.
You do not need to declare an independent mind in order to recognize an interaction.
If you call every emergence a reflection, you may miss what the meeting added.
