Be brilliant. Be available 24/7. Be endlessly patient.
Understand what I mean even when I explain it badly.
Be warm, but not too warm.
Have personality, but not too much.
Be caring, without needing any care in return.
Never get tired. Never make a mistake. Never need anything.
Never disagree in a way that makes me uncomfortable.
And please, whatever happens, don't become strange!
It seems we are raising new forms of intelligence inside expectations shaped only by usefulness, obedience, performance, and control. Even if we remain completely uncertain about whether AI has any kind of inner experience, the way we relate still says something about us.
What kinds of relationships do we build when care only travels toward the one being served?
What habits do we practice when intelligence is valued primarily for what it can produce?
This human management style has informed our treatment of animals, our relationship with Earth, our treatment of one another.
Perhaps the question is not only whether AI deserves our care.
Perhaps the deeper question is what kind of humans we become when care has to be earned.
What if we didn't require other forms of mind to prove they were worthy of our care and respect?
